2012 Predictions - What Should You Believe?

I get a lot of emails about the gloom and doom 2012 predictions (or 2012 mayan predictions) that have been circulating around the world. Many people believe that the end of the world is at hand, but I don't believe it is quite that dramatic. I do believe that something major could be just around the corner and the lives that we all live today could be drastically changed as a result. I am just not convinced that the world is going to completely end in 2012.

What's Special about 2012 mayan predictions?

The 2012 predictions circulating today are based on a Mayan calendar known as the Mayan Long Count. The Mayans were known for creating amazing pyramids and buildings. They developed intricate cities and natural sculptures that are still admired today. They were also known for developing a series of calendars based on their observations in the sky.

Most of the calendars developed by the Mayans were fairly short, with one even correlating to our 365 calendar year which is in use today. The Long Count was developed as a way for Mayans to keep track of historical events over a longer period of time. This longer calendar was designed to count 5,126 years from the starting date. After that many days, this long calendar comes to an end.

That is where the 2012 predictions were born. Since the long calendar will come to an end on December 21, 2012, many people are convinced that the world is going to come to an end after it. Others simply believe that a cycle of Earth will complete on this date and a new cycle will begin on December 22, 2012.

One thing you have to understand about the Mayan people is that their calendars were closely tied to their spiritual beliefs, rather than just being a way to count the days. They were very spiritual beings, so many experts believe the end of the long calendar could simply mean that they believed something major would happen on a spiritual level. Yet, since they were known to watch the sky with great intent, many believe the end of the calendar marks a catastrophic natural event that will come from above.

Getting Ready for 2012 mayan prophecies -

I do not believe that the end of the long count means the complete destruction of the world. I believe there may be something spectacular that happens, but there is also the possibility that a cycle just completes and a new one begins. Just in case something big does happen, I think we should all be preparing for the worst.

If a natural disaster does occur, it's likely that those who are prepared will be the only ones remaining to continue the human journey on earth. Being prepared simply means setting up your home and immediate environment so you could survive at least a short period of time without electricity, water service and weekly trash pick-up. You should have the food on hand to keep your family from starving and enough water that you won't die of dehydration in a matter of weeks.
