When I decided to start earning money online, my knowledge about the internet was limited to reading websites and sending email. While I am still not an expert, I have learned to create well designed web pages which earn me multiple streams of income.

I have learned that there is a hard way to succeed online and an easy way to succeed online. I succeeded the hard way through much of my journey.

I wanted to find a friend or someone who shared my background and mentality. I wanted someone to bounce ideas off and ask questions of when needed. That turned out to be very difficult to find, since I was unwilling to pay $97 a month for years on end just to learn from someone.

So, I started trying things out on my own. Writing this page is my way of passing my knowledge on to others just starting out.

Today, I have become a success in my field. People know me by my name. Every month, thousands of visitors come to my site. What I earn from the Internet today in just a few hours a day is enough for a homemaker and is definitely better than working a day job nine to five. Yet, I know this is only the tip of the iceberg of my online career.

Following are the secrets to becoming an online success, as I have experienced them so far:

1. Choose the right business for you- Know yourself and what you like to do. Don't try to force a business that you don't like or don't have any interest in. Don't try to copycat every business that is earning someone else money. If it isn't right for you, then it won't work for you.

2. There has been a gigantic explosion of business ideas online, but you have to choose the best one for you and focus in on it. Every day will bring a new idea or offer, but you can't let them break your concentration.

Take it from my experience, there is no way to start an online business and get rich overnight. It takes hard work and dedication to become successful.

3. You will need others to help you along the way. If you know someone already making money online that can help you out, you have more than I had in the beginning. I could have saved tons of money and time had I had the help and advice of others in the beginning.

There are a lot of scams and illegal opportunities online, but with some guidance from someone knowledgeable you will avoid them.

A few years back, I wrote an article about SWOT analysis of e-commerce, which became very popular. In this article, I mentioned that one of the disadvantages of Internet marketing is that you are alone in the business.

If you can find a good friend to share ideas with and ask questions of from time to time, you will not feel alone.

If nothing else, write to me and consider me your friend. (As a business practice, I never send unsolicited email to my contact list. I only recommend products that I personally use or that I have personally tested and found satisfactory.)

When I ventured into online marketing, I realized right away that I would need a website to be successful. Initially, I tried blogs, free websites, and affiliate sites, but those did not work. People just do not take these sites seriously. Credibility and trustworthiness struggles when operating from a free website or blog.

Once my first website was established, I realized that wasn't even enough. That website had to be functional if it was going to be a success.
