Name Numerology - How to Find Out What Your Name Means

In name numerology each letter of the alphabet is assigned a numeric value. To get a value for your name you would have to find the numeric value for each letter and then add them together and reduce it down to a single digit.

The name number's significance in numerology represents three different things. From your name you can get your personality number, vocational number and destiny number. Unlike your life path number, your name numbers can change as the name is changed. You may be able to make up for some negatives in your life path number through simple changes in your name to get a name number that will counteract the negative traits from your life path number.

Personality Number - The personality number reflects relationships and how you interact with others. It can reveal information about all types of relationships. This number comes from the name that you are called by your friends, family and people who are close to you. For example, your name may be Jackson, but everyone calls you Jack, so you will use Jack to figure your personality number in name numerology. The numbers for the letters in Jack are j=6, a=1, c=4, k=3. Add those numbers together and you get 14 which is reduced to 5. So, Jack has a personality number of 5. You would look at the chart to see what the number you get means. Let's look at 6. A person with a personality number of 6 is someone who gets along with people easily and has no trouble making friends or finding romantic partners.

Vocational Number - Also called the expression number in name numerology, the vocational number represents your occupation or career. This number can help you to find what career path you are best suited for. You may find that your vocational number clears up why you are unhappy in your current job. Maybe you are more prone to enjoying jobs where you are an administrator, but you currently work in marketing. You may want to make some changes so you can find a career for which you are better suited and that will make you happy. If you can't change careers then you can get the assistance of a good numerologist to help you see how making slight changes to your name could help. To figure your vocational name you add the digits of the numbers for your whole name and reduce to a single digit.

Destiny Number - Also called the monogram number, the destiny number reveals the good and bad luck that you have. It comes from the initials of your name. It will influence your happiness and general luck.

Name numerology can also apply to other names, like a name of a business. Some people even use numerology to figure out how to name their pet or children to ensure they have happiness and success in life.
